HOME MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

There is a general misconception in society that a visually impaired person can not do any household work. This misconception extends to the family of the visually impaired person and the general public, which after continuous hearing is also assumed by the visually impaired too. However, knowledgeable people have believed and claimed that when one of the senses of a person becomes incapable of doing a given task, then their power comes in other senses or other senses become capable of compensating him.

Women of all age groups are trained and engaged in housework. However, this doesn't apply to the visually impaired, who themselves believe they are incompetent.

We believe that even a visually impaired girl can do housework with full efficiency. The only need is to train them. To do so a complicated process is employed. An immense amount of patience is required from both the educator and the student during the training (especially roti making training).

This process is difficult not because of physical drawbacks but because of a lack of mental awareness. This is why after a lot of practice too, the trainees do not gain success. This is why the trainers first prepare the students mentally because the work of thinking and decision making is done by the human mind and not the body.

The founder of Drishti strongly believes that if the mind is activated, anything becomes possible. He implemented this program in 2016 as soon as the ideation started to shape.

This also has a domino effect of benefits. It is safe to say that this program has made an unprecedented contribution to the development of a visually impaired girl child. This course is for 3 months where per batch only 6 trainees are enrolled.

So far more than 100 girls have benefited from this course. The first month of this course is solely allotted to mobility training where the trainees go to the market and buy household goods. Information about prices and bargaining techniques are also taught. By the end of the course, the trainee will be able to buy household goods on their own, without any help. Along with this, they are also taught how to make basic dishes like Poha, Pasta, Maggi, Daal, Chawal, Roti etc.

Along with being taught how to maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and the house, the trainees are also taught how to wear traditional Indian wear like Saree.

By the second month, the trainees will be able to make more complicated and delicious food items like Idli, sambar, dosa, puri, kachori etc. Apart from this, they are also taught how to do some religious work. By the end of the second week, they will also be equipped with the skills of threading, knitting sweaters etc.

By the end of the 3rd week, the trainees will be able to do their own grooming by applying makeup, nail polish, making different hairstyles etc. We also educate the girls on how to behave and react according to the situation and the environment and with the people they are surrounded with.

After these 3 months of training, a visually impaired girl would be able to do all of the household work an average sighted girl can, if not better.
